Instructions

  • Preheat and Prep: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Combine Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  • Combine Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and sugar. Then whisk in the egg, vanilla extract, and applesauce until smooth.
  • Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir just until combined. Gently fold in the diced apples.
  • Bake: Scoop 1 tablespoon portions of batter onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them a few inches apart. Bake for 10 minutes.
  • Broil and Glaze: Remove from oven and turn on broiler to high. Make the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar and apple cider/juice. Brush some glaze over the warm fritters and broil for 2-4 minutes, rotating the pan frequently, until the glaze caramelizes and bubbles.

  • Glaze and Cool: Remove from oven and brush the remaining glaze over the fritters. Let sit for 15 minutes to allow the glaze to set before serving.
