The Best Viral High-Protein Cottage Cheese Taco Dip

A hand dipping a fresh red bell pepper slice into a healthy, high-protein Cottage Cheese Taco Dip.

A quick, no-cook, high-protein dip with the flavors of taco queso. This recipe uses low-fat cottage cheese as a base, which is simply mixed (not blended) with taco seasoning. A variety of flavorful ingredients are then stirred in, including shredded pepper jack and cheddar cheese, sliced black olives, fresh cilantro, red bell pepper, and minced pickled jalapeños. The dip is chilled for an hour to allow the flavors to meld before serving with chips or vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 oz. low-fat cottage cheese (e.g., Good Culture)
  • 1.5 Tbsp. taco seasoning (e.g., Siete or homemade)
  • 3/4 cup freshly shredded pepper jack cheese
  • 3/4 cup freshly shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 (2.25 oz.) small can sliced black olives
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red bell pepper
  • 2 Tbsp. minced pickled jalapeños
  • Optional Add-ins:
  • Hot sauce
  • Extra taco seasoning
  • Lime juice
  • Green chiles

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cottage cheese and taco seasoning. Mix well.
  2. Add the shredded pepper jack cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, black olives, chopped cilantro, finely chopped red bell pepper, and minced pickled jalapeños to the bowl.
  3. Mix everything together until all ingredients are evenly combined.
  4. Cover the bowl and let the dip set in the refrigerator for at least one hour to chill and for the flavors to meld.
  5. Serve chilled with tortilla chips or sliced raw vegetables.

Notes

  • This recipe is intentionally chunky; there is no need to blend the cottage cheese.
  • For the best flavor and melting quality (if you were to heat it), the recipe recommends shredding your own cheese from a block.
  • The dip needs to chill for at least an hour before serving for the best flavor and texture.
