The Ultimate Ham and Cheese Sliders on Hawaiian Rolls

The finished, golden-brown baked Ham and Cheese Sliders fresh from the oven.

An easy and popular recipe for baked ham and cheese sliders, perfect for parties or a quick meal. The sliders are made using a 12-count package of Savory Butter Hawaiian Rolls, which are sliced in half as a whole block. The rolls are layered with Black Forest ham and Havarti cheese, then brushed with a savory mustard-butter glaze containing poppy seeds. The sliders are baked covered in foil, then finished uncovered until the cheese is melted and the tops are golden brown.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (12 count) Savory Butter Hawaiian Rolls
  • 12 slices Black Forest ham
  • 6 slices Havarti cheese
  • Mustard-Butter Glaze:
  • 4 tablespoon salted butter
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
  • ¼ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×12 inch baking pan with butter.
  2. Without separating the individual rolls, slice the entire block of Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally.
  3. Place the bottom half of the rolls into the prepared baking pan.
  4. Layer each roll with a slice of ham and a half slice of Havarti cheese.
  5. Place the top half of the rolls back on top of the ham and cheese layer.
  6. Prepare the Glaze: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter (about 30 seconds). Stir in the Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce (if using), onion powder (if using), and poppy seeds.
  7. Brush the butter mixture evenly over the tops of the rolls.
  8. Loosely cover the pan with aluminum foil and bake for about 15 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and the tops of the buns are golden brown.
  10. Serve warm.

Notes

  • The easiest way to prepare the rolls is to slice the entire connected block in half horizontally, rather than separating them first.
  • Covering the sliders with foil for the initial baking period helps the cheese melt and the inside get hot without the tops burning.
  • Worcestershire sauce and onion powder are listed as optional additions to the glaze for extra flavor.
