A festive and savory recipe for a homemade ‘Thanksgiving Snack Mix,’ perfect for a holiday party or gathering. This easy, baked snack mix features a combination of corn and rice cereals, mini crackers, pretzels, and stuffing mix, all tossed with toasted pecans. The mix is coated in a rich, aromatic brown butter that has been infused with fresh herbs like thyme, sage, and rosemary, and seasoned with maple syrup and spices. The entire mixture is baked until dry and crispy, with sweet dried cranberries stirred in at the end.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups corn cereal squares (e.g., Chex)
  • 2 1/2 cups rice cereal squares (e.g., Chex)
  • 2 cups mini Cheddar-flavored crackers
  • 2 cups mini pretzels or pretzel snaps
  • 2 cups seasoned cubed stuffing mix
  • 1 1/2 cups pecans, toasted
  • 2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted butter
  • 3 sprigs fresh thyme, plus 2 tablespoons chopped thyme leaves
  • 2 sprigs fresh sage
  • 1 sprig fresh rosemary
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon dark brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1 cup dried cranberries

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the corn cereal, rice cereal, crackers, pretzels, stuffing mix, and toasted pecans. Set aside.
  3. Make the Brown Butter Sauce: Melt the butter in a medium, light-colored skillet over medium heat. Add the thyme, sage, and rosemary sprigs. Continue to cook, swirling the skillet, for 5 to 7 minutes, until the butter turns a nutty brown.
  4. Pour the mixture through a sieve into a medium bowl, pressing on the herbs to release any excess butter. Let the brown butter cool for 15 minutes.
  5. To the cooled brown butter, add the maple syrup, garlic powder, onion powder, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, and seasoned salt. Whisk vigorously until the mixture is emulsified and slightly thickened.
  6. Bake the Snack Mix: Pour the butter mixture over the cereal mixture and toss until evenly coated.
  7. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes, stirring after 10 minutes.
  8. Stir in the chopped thyme, toss to combine, and continue to bake for about another 10 minutes, until the mixture is dry to the touch.
  9. Let the snack mix cool completely on the baking sheet, then stir in the dried cranberries.

  • This snack mix can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
