The Ultimate No-Bake 4th of July Trifle: Your Perfect Party Dessert

A serving of the layered 4th of July Trifle in a glass cup.

A festive, no-bake dessert perfect for the 4th of July, this trifle features patriotic red, white, and blue layers. The dessert is built in a large trifle bowl by layering cubes of store-bought angel food cake, creamy white chocolate instant pudding, fresh strawberries, fresh blueberries, and thawed whipped topping. It’s a simple-to-assemble but impressive-looking centerpiece that is chilled before serving.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6.8 ounces instant white chocolate pudding (e.g., two 3.4-ounce Jello brand containers)
  • 4 cups cold whole milk
  • 14 ounces store-bought angel food cake, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 16 ounces thawed whipped topping (e.g., two 8-ounce containers)
  • 32 ounces fresh strawberries, washed, hulled, sliced, and patted dry
  • 18 ounces fresh blueberries, washed and patted dry

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, prepare the instant white chocolate pudding with the cold milk according to the package directions. Chill the pudding until it is set.
  2. In a large trifle bowl (approximately 3.25 quarts), arrange a single layer of the 1-inch angel food cake cubes to cover the bottom.
  3. Spoon half of the set white chocolate pudding over the cake cubes.
  4. Create a decorative border by placing a layer of sliced strawberries against the inside edges of the bowl. Then, add a single layer of the remaining sliced strawberries over the pudding.
  5. Add a layer of blueberries on top of the strawberries.
  6. Spread one container (8 ounces) of the thawed whipped topping over the berry layer.
  7. Repeat the layers: add the remaining cake cubes, the rest of the pudding, and another layer of strawberries and blueberries.
  8. Finish by spreading the second container of whipped topping over the top.
  9. Decorate the top of the trifle with any remaining strawberries and blueberries in a festive pattern.
  10. Refrigerate the completed trifle for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the layers to meld and set.
  11. Keep the trifle refrigerated until you are ready to serve.

Notes

  • A large trifle bowl (around 3.25 quarts or 104 ounces) is recommended for the best presentation.
  • It is important to pat the washed berries thoroughly dry before layering to prevent the trifle from becoming watery.
  • Chilling the trifle for at least an hour is a crucial step that allows the flavors to meld and makes serving neater.
